Plans are being considered to upgrade the harbour at St Mary's as part of a development of the cargo and passenger ferry service linking with Penzance on the UK mainland. As well as improvements to the berth and providing more space for cargo handling, there is an opportunity to build in better wave protection to the harbour.
Beckett Rankine Partnership developed plans for various schemes for new deeper water berths with the option of introducing a simple ro-ro-system. Relative merits were considered for options that offered different solutions in terms of cost, cargo handling, environmental and added benefits.
