The Parvathy-Puthanar Canal in Kerala is fed by small streams and sewers. The untreated waste in the canal makes it dangerous to health and it is non-navigable due to a build-up of weeds and debris. A solution to these problems was required to make full use of the oppurtunity to attract tourists to this potentially appealing area.

Beckett Rankine Partnership studied the problem and proposed reconnecting the canal to the sea through the river system. This would flush out the silt that dries out in the summer and clogs it up. Mechanichal aeration could also be used to help purify the water, so the canal can be used safely.
