Medway LNG Terminal
Oil, Gas and Pipelines

Image

In order to secure a constant and diverse source of gas supply to the UK, a new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import terminal is required in the London area. A deep water site on the Isle of Grain was found to be suitable because of straightforward navigation and close proximity to the existing cryogenic gas strategic reserve tanks.

Beckett Rankine considered two options for the Front End Engineering Design (FEED). An assessment was made of the disused oil tanker jetties. The recommended solution has been constructed with an approach trestle, jetty head and dolphins for the 145,000 cubic metre vessels.

Bauxite Transport Study - Berbice River
Dry Bulk Terminals

Image

The facilities for exporting bauxite from the Berbice River on a large scale had been in service for many years and required updating. Fundamental changes had to be introduced so that the port could continue to be a market leader in its field. A refurbishment procedure had to be produced to account for the introduction of modern practices.

Beckett Rankine Partnership visited and inspected the barge loading facilities. A report was prepared aimed at maximising efficiency throughout the river operations. New, modern equipment, such as updated barges, were proposed so that the raw materials could be transported as efficiently as possible.

Nene Waterfront Regeneration
Leisure and Small Craft Facilities

Image

The group of empty sites found near the river Nene in the town of Wisbech needed redeveloping. The Fenland District Council had in mind a modern and vibrant new region that would not require constant maintenance. An imaginative scheme was prepared for the new waterfront with marine activities to meet the requirements outlined by the council.

Beckett Rankine Partnership prepared designs and tender documents for the new marine elements and set up a contract between the client and the chosen contractor. The project entailed the installation of pontoons and piles and was able to accomodate up to 15 additional boats.

Port of Pembroke
Refurbishment and Regeneration

Image

Due to a decline in business and an overall lack of funding, the Port of Pembroke near Milford Haven was to be sold. The owner required expert assistance in preparation of market material. The port has two deep water general cargo quays plus a smaller dedicated berth for bunkering vessels up to 20,000 DWT.

Beckett Rankine Partnership found the three solid quays to be in servicable condition. It was ascertained that the port was suitable for the handling of timber, refrigerated goods, bulks and semi-bulks. Subject to an agreement with the neighbouring site, Ro-Ro services could be introduced.

Radicatel Freight Ferry Terminal, France
Container Terminals

Image

A new Roll-on Roll-off freight ferry service between Southampton and the French terminal at Radicatel has started operation. Vessels carry accompanied and unaccompanied road trailers and containers on this new route which fills a gap in the market. This overnight crossing will save the users considerable driving time.

Beckett Rankine have managed the project, masterplanning the terminals, undertaking the outline design of the new facilities and preparing the contract documents for the new linkspan at Radicatel. This fast track project was completed on time and to budget.

Southampton Freight Ferry Terminal
General Cargo

Image

One of the Port of Southampton's disused roll-on, roll-off linkspans was pressed into use for the freight ferry services linking with the Port of Rouen. Some refurbishment work was required at the gantry bridge and a pontoon was added to support the stern doors of the vessels and to provide more space for manoeuvring.

Beckett Rankine Partnership analysed the bridge and determined that some additonal braces were needed to resist wind loads in place of the diagonals that had to be removed to provide headroom for the double- stacked containers. The layout for the terminal was also prepared.
